The story of Restore Community Church Loughton goes back to when two couples started praying in a house in Loughton on Sunday 30th September 1984. They had been inspired by going to a John Wimber conference and wanted to see a church based on the values of relationship, the work of the Holy Spirit and a heart to serve the local community. Those prayer meetings grew each week and gradually became a church gathering.
Wes and Mary Sutton led the church from 1988 until 2008, when Ian King then stepped in to the role of senior leader (having been associate leader from 2001).
The church has continued to grow and has met in various local buildings as we have expanded. We have always had a vision to multiply and reproduce into as many expressions as open up to serve our local communities of North East London.
Expanding the vision…
In 2010, God gave us a new name, changing us from Vineyard Church to Restore Community Church. The name Restore comes from Isaiah 61: “They will rebuild the ancient ruins and restore the places long devastated.” This is where we find our vision to welcome everyone to meet with Jesus everyday and see restoration everywhere.
In 2012, Doxa Deo Church asked to merge into Restore, resonating with our vision to serve the local community in Loughton.
